Conditions that can be relieved and treated with custom-made foot orthotics include shin splints, metatarsalgia, heel pain, ankle instability, achilles tendonitis, patello-femoral pain, post-operative knee and hip surgery, hip and buttock paid and lower back pain just to name a few. Many of the problems associated with foot mechanics can be easily fixed with custom-made orthotic insoles.

Your feet are not only important because they support you with each step you take, they also have a direct impact on the rest of your body. It is therefore important to understand this relationship. Did you know that a small abnormality in foot function can have a large impact on joints higher up in the body, causing pain and discomfort to your knees, hips and lower back? When you are running, the pressure on your feet can be three or four times your body weight. Even walking can produce more pressure than the sum of your body weight. The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day! That adds up to about 115,000 miles in a lifetime, or more than four times around the world. That is a lot of walking and with ill-fitting shoes not only do you suffer from painful feet, think of the damage you do to the rest of your body. In some cases foot ailments can be an early signal of more serious medical problems like arthritis or diabetes.
TOG GaitScan is state of the art pressure plate hardware and computer software technology which allows our Physiotherapists to assess and analyse your feet while standing and walking. We can determine what discomforts you may be experiencing, diagnose if they are contributing to your symptoms or injuries and if you need custom-made orthotics.

The Gaitscan assessment is FREE and can be part of your Physio consultation. It usually ranges from 15-30min depending on how complex your feet are. The Physio will assess your foot biomechnaics as you stand and walk using the latest Gaitscan computerised pressure plate technology. All orthotics are $449 for the first pair and children's orthotics are $299. For Adult orthotics, if you order a second pair of when you order the first, the 2nd pair is discounted down to $299, meaning total for 2 pairs is $749. You will need to pre-purchase at least 50% of the total orthotic order upon ordering or you can pay the full amount up front and then claim back with your health fund. Take the receipt into your health fund to claim under your Physiotherapy cover. Your health fund may require that you need a letter from the Physio to claim. Just ask the Physio and they can provide you with one.
NOTE: not all health funds cover orthotics and you need to check with your health fund if you are covered - remember the orthotics are from a Physio, not a podiatrist so we do not use items numbers and it may not come under 'podiatry' in your health fund. Always check with your health fund first before ordering.
